If you grew up playing point-and-click games like Maniac Mansion and Moneky Island you have developers Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick to thank. A few years ago the two teamed up on a new game in the style of the games they had developed for LucasArts in the 80s and 90s.
It’s called Thimbleweed Park, and it was funded through a crowdfunding campaign in 2014 and released on 2017.
The game is available for PC, Android, iOS, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch, and typically sells for $10 to $20. But right now it’s available for free from the Epic Games Store.
The only catches are that you’ll need to install the Epic Games app and you only get the Windows or Mac versions of the game. If you want to play on a mobile device or game console, you’ll still need to pull out your wallet, and Linux isn’t officially supported.

It’s a fine game, but you’d better brush up on that Monkey Island 1 and 2 to enjoy it fully.
It is decidedly specific.
If you want writing with your game, but don’t know what ScuMM is, get Sunless Sea (not Skies) or West of Loathing, depending on what art style/setting you like more.
