CyanogenMod developer Dalingrin has released a minor update to CM9 for the HP TouchPad tablet. The latest software is still based on Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but it includes a handful of bug fixes and a few new features.

Update: Nightly builds of CyanogenMod 9 Alpha for the HP TouchPad are now available. You can find the latest nightlies by following @CM-Tenderloin on Twitter.

HP TouchPad with CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 0.6

CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 0.6 offers some improvements for the touchscreen, an option to to hide the bottom toolbar in full screen mode, the ability to scroll through the quick settings menu, and preliminary support for ROM Manager Premium. ROM Manager is an Android app that lets you flash updates without first manually rebooting your device into ClockworkMod recovery and navigating through its menus.

The new software also now brings up a menu with several options when you press-and-hold the power button. You can shut down the tablet, reboot the TouchPad, take a screenshot, enable airplane mode, or changed a few other settings.

If you’re already running an earlier version of CyanogenMod Alpha 9, there are two easy ways to update:

  1. Download the latest Alpha zip file ( to your TouchPad, reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery, and choose to “install zip from sdcard.” You can find more detailed instructions in our post on updating from Alpha 0 to Alpha 0.5.
  2. Place the latest Alpha zip file in the “cminstall” directory on your TouchPad and run ACMEInstaller on your computer to install the update the same way you installed Android in the first place. Once the file you want to install is in the cminstall folder, just check out our original guide for installing Android 4.0 on the TouchPad and start with step 8.

If this is the first time you’re installing Android 4.0 on the TouchPad, you can use our step-by-step guide for installing CyanogenMod 9. It will walk you through the steps of adding Android, ClockworkMod Recovery, and the Moboot to a TouchPad which is already running HP webOS software.

  3. aside from “newer” and “better looking” there any other reason to upgrade from cm7 to 9? the cm7 running is fine for me..not many crashes and relatively stable..and everything i need works on it…

  4. Hi got video problems on mine the YouTube app and any attempts to view a YouTube video ends up in endless loading and a touch to retry screen any ideas?

      1. just disable debugging mode. i had the same problem and spent hours trying to find drivers only to find out i had to disable debugging. hehe.

  5. Is there a way to see my corporate Calender. My Google one is visible and my TripIt one swell, just my corporate one is not showing up. Any fixes/work arrounds?

  6. I highly recommend cm9. The UI is night and day. Also the display has improved as well. At least on my pad. The only thing that’s not working is voice search. Is there a patch for it?

Much prop to the whole team.

  7. just upgraded to CM9 from CM7, but when it starts up, the pattern lock screen pops up. How can I get rid of the lock screen?

    Thanks and great jobs CyanogenMod

    1. Chris,

Were you able to solve this?  Encountered the same issue …

  8. Crazy question…
I downloaded some fonts but now I can’t find out how to get the original font back on my tablet. Any advice as to where to look? I cleared the cache and even restored to an earlier backup…

Edit~ Issue resolved! I just reinstalled the OS… all is well!

  9. put cm7 on my touchpad yesterday because I was a little worried about the issues on cm9..put cm9 on it yesterday late at night after I thought about it more…and I must say, Job well done. I love it. I have had absolutely no problems with it at all. Only thing is I had to install gapps through clockworkmod, but that took all of 30 seconds

  10. I had nfs shift on cm7. when i upgraded to cm9 nfs still works but acceleration sensor goes crazy. same thing happens for other games.

  11. Email keeps crashing for me and I don’t know where to find the “Gapps fixer(tm)”

  12. What’s the scoop on video?  Will Netflix work on this build?  HD video?

  13. I finally went from CM 7 to 9 now with 0.6, and I love it.  Brad’s instructions were great, as usual.

It’s only been a few hours, but so far it seems to work very well.  Wifi, market, everything I’ve tried has worked, and no crashes yet.

It’s nice to see the improvements in the stock browser, too — Tabs!

  14. I noticed that my Google calendar disappeared after the 0.6 update.  I had to re-install Gapps and then the Gapps fixer to get it to work again.  Is it usually required to re-install Gapps everything a new update comes out?  I had the google calendar syncing problem initially with the alpha 0.5 one too.  Or maybe it’s just the version of Gapps I have requires the Gapps fixer so then I have to re-install this each time?

Does anyone else have these problems with the google calendar syncing?  I used the Gapps version in Brad’s initial guide for CM9.

    1. I have the same problem.  You’re saying it works after you run Gapps and the Gapps fixer?

  15. i just cannot install andoid at all can some one link the first time putting android on the hp tablet because it seems to be easier to update it
my problem is when im in cmd i cannot get it to run acme

    1. You need to input this command string:

      novacom.exe boot mem:// <ACMEInstaller2

    1. MY wifi is also not working. i attempt to connect to any wifi network and it never receives an IP address. i’m not using a 192 subnet but that should’t make a difference.

  16. Oh yeah, big thanks to the CM team for all the hard work, if you appreciate their work consider donating, and to Brad for the excellent guides.

  17. Since update, gallery keeps crashing but it’s not a big deal, camera doesn’t work anyways. All things considered, I still highly recommend CM9, very nice OS. Like everyone else, I am really anticipating hardware acceleration. Really soon, this tablet is going to be one of the nicest available! I love showing this thing to people who thought it was an iPad and watching a look of amazement come over their face!

      1. what benefits are there for wiping the cache in CWM before installing updates?
do I just select wipe partition while in CWM?
