CTL is probably best known in netbook circles for selling a version of Intel’s Classmate PC for school children in the US. And the latest laptop in the 2Go PC line is the company’s first 10.1 inch notebook to have a 1.66GHz Intel Pine Trail processor.
The CTL 2go E10IS also has a spill-resistant keyboard and a semi-rugged case, two features that help set it apart from the crowd a bit. Unlike the original 9 inch version of the Classmate PC, the 10 inch version has a keyboard that’s large enough to touch-type on with adult hands. It also has a nice wide touchpad with two large buttons beneath it.
The rest of the specs are pretty standard fare. The laptop has a 1024 x 600 pixel display, 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, a flash card reader, 3 USB ports, VGA ouptut, mic and headphone jacks, Ethernet, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi.
The laptop weighs measures 10″ x 8″ x 1.5″ and weighs about 2.8 pounds. CTL says you should get about 4.5 hours of battery life, which seems kind of low for a Pine Trail-based netbook with a 6 cell battery. The CTL 2Go E10IS is available with Windows XP Home or Pro, or Windows 7 Starter or Professional.

I am the lucky owner of a used NOBI-branded Intel classmate with an Atom processor. It’s odd-looking, a little beat-up, and the wireless reception frankly sucks, but one area where this netbooks shines out is the keyboard. Yes, it’s tiny like every other 9″ netbook keyboard out there, but key travel is pretty deep and the tactile feel of each keypress is pronounced and very unlike other netbook or laptop keyboards I’ve used. If the picture above is accurate, you’re looking at what should be a really comfortable machine to use for it’s size.
