CTL is probably best known to netbook enthusiasts as a company that sells mini-laptops in the US based on the Intel Classmate PC reference designs. While the Classmate PC is designed for educational use, CTL sells to both educators and the general public. So if you want to get your hands on a convertible touchscreen tablet with an 8.9 inch display, the CTL 2Go PC Convertible Classmate is one of your best bets.

But CTL also has a few other netbook models up its sleeve, including the new CTL 2Go UW1. This mini-laptop sports 1 0.1 inch, 1024 x 576 pixel display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. The UW1 has 3 USB ports, a flash card reader, and 802.11b/g WiFi. It runs Windows XP and comes a 6 cell battery that CTL says is good for up to 5 hours of use.

The netbook measure 10.4″ x 1.3″ x 7.1″ and weighs 2.6 pounds.

One thing that sets the UW1 apart from the competition is the option to upgrade the operating system from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Professional. But that upgrade will increase the price from $399 to $585.

  1. Well, this (UW1) really reminds me of the HP Mini 1000. Of course it’s different, but looking at some features of the design (the way the display is mounted, touchpad) it looks like a matte rip off. 😉

  2. Brad – You have to invent an abbreviation for:

    “10.1 inch, 1024 x 576 pixel display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive”

Don’t forget to claim ™ on it – just so that Psion does not use it.
