Creative and ZiiLABS have been pushing a series of mobile processors for the past few years, but I haven’t seen many devices actually ship with the ZiiLABS StemCell chips yet. As an effort to spur things along a bit, Creative unveiled the HanZpad in February.
The HanZpad is a reference platform for a low cost tablet. It’s aimed at the Chinese market — but this week the Creative HanZpad showed up at the FCC website, suggesting that we could see tablets based on the platform in the US soon.
At heart of this 10.1 inch tablet you’ll find a ZiiLABS ZMS-40 processor. It’s a 1.5 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU which ZiiLABS likes to call a 100-core chip, since it also has 96 StemCell media processor cores.
The CPU not only supports HD video playback, but it can handle display resolutions as high as 7680 x 4320.
The tablet also has 1GB of RAM, up to 64GB of storage, and a 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display. It measures less than 0.3 inches thick. It’s designed to run Google Android 4.0.
According to the reference platform specs, the tablet has a magnesium alloy case and measures 10.2″ x 6.7″ x 0.3″ and weighs about 1.2 pounds.
While the HanZpad is a reference platform, the model submitted to the FCC is labeled as the Creative PMT-ZZ0030. It’s not clear if the tablet will be sold under that name in the US.
1st attempt: ziio tablets , zii alliance
2nd attempt: jaguar3 tablet alliance
3rd attempt: hanzpad chinese tablet alliance, supposed to be out mid-May.
4th attempt: PMT-ZZ0030 usa tablet alliance?
jaguar was just a reference tablet for android 3 produced by ziilabs, never actually got produced, hanzpad is being marketed almost exclusively to the asian education market grades K-3 which is the biggest waste of a quad core processor i have ever seen. this new tablet is based off of the reference designs leftover from the hanzpad alliance. its interesting and im glad creative didnt give up on the apple dominated tablet market here in america.
