Compulab is an Israeli company that makes small, fanless computers for home or commercial use. The company’s latest mini PC aimed at enterprise/industrial usage is called the IPC3, and it has a die-cast aluminum case with built-in heat sinks for passive cooling and measures about 7.4″ x 6.3″ x 1.6″.

A Compulab IPC3 with an Intel Core i5-7200U 15 watt dual-core processor will be available soon for about $700. The computer is also available with a higher performance Core i7-7500U chip.

Each model supports up to 32GB of DDRL-1600 memory and has room for a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD plus two mSATA slots for solid state storage.

Other features include DipslayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4A, S/pDIF 7.1 channel audio, a 3.5mm headset jack, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, a 3 RS232 ports as well as 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.

If you’re looking to build a quiet PC for your home office, there are probably cheaper options. But the IPC has a rugged case and it can be used in environments with temperatures ranging from -40 C to 70 C. There’s also support for a series of expansion modules that Compulab calls FACE  (Function and Connectivty Extension) modules that can bring features such as power-over-Ethernet, or additional ports.

  1. I have the Mintbox2 (older model of the IPC3), and it is the BEST desktop PC I have ever owned/used hands down! with ZERO maintenance and flawless performance it has become the MAIN computer “go to” in our home, and shortly after also the main Home Theater PC (HTPC/Kodi).
With Linux Mint for OP, this PC is the most solid and reliable PC I have ever encounter – period.
I LOVE THIS MODELS LINE UP, and can not recommend enough! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/

  2. I want a prebuilt fanless desktop PC. I don’t really mind fan noise. I just want one. Does anyone know of any good non-ruggedized and hopefully cheaper fanless PCs that are easily bought in the US?
