Coby is apparently readying a whole new line of next-generation Android tablets. Last month new 7 and 10 inch tablets from the budget electronics company showed up at the FCC. This week an 8 inch model followed suit.
All of the new tablets appear to be powered by dual core Amlogic AM8726-MX ARM Cortex-A9 processors. That should give them a bit of a performance bump from the company’s earlier tablets, many of which featured slower ARM Cortex-A8 chips.

Here’s a run-down of the new tablets:
- Coby Kyros MID7060 – 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display
- Coby Kyros MID8060 – 8 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel display
- Coby Kyros MID1060 – 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display
All three models will feature 1GB of RAM, 4GB or 8GB of storage, 802.11n WiFi, USB and HDMI ports.
The tablets feature microphones, cameras, and speakers. And they’re all expected to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich — or at least they were when documents were filed by the FCC. It’s possible we could see software updates by the time the tablets actually go on sale.
There’s no word on how much the tablets will cost or when they’ll be available. But Coby’s previous tablets have tended to be priced at the low end of the spectrum. I’d be surprised if any of these tablets cost much more than an Amazon Kindle Fire or Barnes & Noble NOOK HD.
We’ll probably know more by the time CES rolls around next month.
