Google’s Android Device Manager lets smartphone users locate a missing device, remotely lock it, or even wipe data by logging into a website. Now it looks like Google may be preparing to offer a similar feature to Chromebook users.

chrome os remote lock

Google’s François Beaufort notes that the latest dev channel version of Chromium OS includes an experimental option to enroll in the program… but it doesn’t actually work yet.

If the feature eventually goes live, it will let users with Chrome OS devices remotely lock, erase, and locate a device if it’s lost, stolen, or if you have some other reason for wanting to restrict access to your Chrome machine.

Beaufort reports that the Chromium OS team refers to the new feature as “consumer management,” although it’ll probably have a different name if and when it goes live for all users.
