The Google Chrome browser for Android has been updated with two small, but convenient new features. It’s now easier to switch between browser tabs, and you can search by image.

chrome swipe

You can still switch between tabs by tapping on the tabs at the top of the browser. But now you can also swipe your finger across the toolbar at the top of the browser to move between tabs.

Just swipe your finger left or right across the top of the screen (by the URL bar) whether you’re in landcape or portrait mode. This should slide one tab off the screen as the next comes up. You may have to first swipe down from the top of the screen if you don’t see the URL bar.

There’s also a new gesture that lets you access items in the Chrome menu (new tab, new incognito tab, bookmarks, history, etc) without lifting your finger in between taps. Just swipe down from the menu button and slide your finger to the item you want before lifting it.

This lets you open the settings, history, find in page dialog, or other actions more quickly.

In order to search by image, just tap and hold your finger on any image in the Chrome web browser, and choose “Search Google for this image” option from the pop-up dialog. You can also choose to save or open images from the same menu.

  1. Booooooo. Swipe bar sucks vs swipe edge for tabs. The other two gestures (menu and preview) are pointless. Oh yeah…its super slow!

  2. I don’t have the update. It must be beta still. Don’t watch Dexter
