Most smartwatches are wearable devices that connect to your phone over Bluetooth to display notifications, allow you to search the web, or perform other activities. Some models can also connect to the internet over WiFi. But the Samsung Gear S2 and LG G Watch Urbane 2nd Edition are watches that don’t need your phone at all.

Both of these watches include their own cellular radios, allowing them to connect to a mobile network. And both phones will be available soon from AT&T for $200 when you sign up for a 2-year plan, or $300 when you don’t.

The watches will also be among the first devices to support AT&T’s new NumberSync system. This lets you share a single phone number between multiple devices: so you’ll be able to send text messages or receive calls on your watch using the same phone number you’d use for your smartphone.

Samsung’s Gear S2 is a watch with a round, 360 x 360 pixel touchscreen display, a Tizen-based operating system, and a rotating bezel that allows you to interact with apps by twisting the ring around the screen.

The LG G Watch Urbane 2nd Edition runs Google’s Android Wear software, features a 480 x 480 pixel round display, and has a stainless steel body.

  1. how long does that battery last? Doh. Cell phone watches are a dumb idea given the short battery life. Not to mention the cancer from having that right against your skin.
