If your netbook has a glossy cover, you may have noticed that the machine looks awfully attractive for the first few minutes after you pull it out of the box. And then it quicklys tarts filling up with smudges and fingerprint marks. You could carry a microfiber cloth around with you at all times to keep your netbook clean, or you could do what one Netbook News.de reader did and cover your netbook with a carbon-like design.
You’ve got to appreciate the guy’s attention to detail. He covered the lid, the wrist area, and the bezel around the screen. Evern the battery has been dressed up, although I think I’d prefer a standard looking battery.
What tricks do you have to keep your netbooks fingerprint free?
Not buying shit (aka “netbooks without matte finish”) would be my preferred solution. Especially since it sends a message to marketroids.
Love the carbon fiber look. I was really thinking about getting a black Aspire One, but after hearing about it being a fingerprint magnet, I decide to go with the white model instead. I may still opt to get a skin for the cover though.
I bought a skin from Schtickers for about $25. I uploaded a photo I took and they had the skin to me within a week. It fits fairly well on my Asus 1000h plus takes care of the fingerprints. They have a lot of designs already on hand, or you can do as I did, and send your own.
As much as I dislike the color, I’ve started buying white instead of black. Fingerprints go unnoticed, for the most part.
It’s really a shame that most of these things aren’t made with a matte finish, though. That’s one of the things I really liked about my original 701 Eee. I hope this glossy fad ends soon.
I spray painted my 900ha matte black. It turned out nicer than I expected, it’s almost the texture of the thinkpad finish.
