Calibre is an eBook management app that lets you organize your digital book library, sync content to an eReader, download metadata from the internet, convert eBooks from one format to another, and even strip DRM from eBooks you’ve purchased (if you have the appropriate plugins).
The app’s been one of the most powerful, versatile eBook management tools since it was first released in 2006. Now 7 years later, Calibre has finally hit version 1.0.
That doesn’t mean the earlier versions were buggy or incomplete, but if you’re an avid digital book reader and haven’t checked out Calibre yet, the launch of version 1.0 is as good an excuse as any to give it a try now.
Calibre 1.0 includes a new cover grid view which lets you navigate through the books in your library by cover art. It also has a faster database — one of the only complaints I’ve had about Calibre to date is that it takes forever and a day to start. Version 1.0 should startup about twice as quickly, although performance will vary depending on the size of your library.
Other changes since version 0.90 includes support for converting Microsoft Word documents, a tool for editing the table of contents in an eBook, and more.
Calibre is available as a free download for Windows, OS X, and Linux.

Android version in the near future?

I love Calibre. I’ve been using it for a couple of years now. Does the 1.0 moniker mean that the updates will come a little slower now? It always seemed that no matter how recently I’d opened the program, there was a new update waiting every single time…
