Sony Bluetooth keyboard

Sony is expected to launch two Android tablets in the coming months, so it’s no surprise that we’re starting to see accessories for the upcoming Sony S1 and Sony S2. Today a Bluetooth keyboard for a Sony Android tablet showed up at the FCC website.

The wireless keyboard is made by Taiwanese company Darfon, so it’s not entirely clear whether it’s an official Sony product or just a device meant to be used with Sony’s tablets. My guess is that it’s a third party accessory, since Sony usually hides its products behind confidentiality requests. But the user manual describes the Darfon keyboard as a “Sony Bluetooth keyboard.”

Above the letter and number keys you’ll find a row of dedicated keys in the upper left corner for special Android functions including Home, Back, Recent Apps, Menu, and Search. There’s also a Caps Lock key — something Google’s not particularly fond of, volume controls, and a dedicated button for switching languages.

The keyboard is takes two AA batteries and uses the Bluetooth 2.0 HID profile with a maximum range of about 32 feet — although I have no idea why you’d want to use the keyboard from 32 feet away from your tablet.

The Sony S1 tablet features a 9.4 inch display and a wedge-shaped design, while the Sony S2 is a dual-screen device with two 5.5 inch displays and a design that allows you to fold the S2 up and slide it into your pocket. Both tablets are designed to work with Sony’s Playstation Suite for Android, which means you’ll be able to play some classic and new Playstation game titles on the mobile devices.

AT&T plans to offer the Sony S2 later this year but I havn’t seen a US launch date for the S1 yet.

  1. Feh, who’d buy anything from Sony??

They’ll just change the firmware with an update is you do something they don’t like and cripple your hardware like they did with Linux on the PS3.

Anyone buying anything from Sony is an idiot or works for one.

  2. caaaaaan you use it with other tablets? because frankly that looks like the perfect sized keyboard, would only be percfected if it could fold in half

    1. I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be able to… but I can’t make any promises since I only have a user manual and a few photos to go on here.
