Research in Motion plans to roll out version 2.0 of its operating system for the BlackBerry PlayBook operating system later this month — and the company is starting to show off some new features.
We already knew that PlayBook OS 2.0 would include support for some Android applications as well as native email, contact, and calendar apps.
But Pocket Lint reports that RIM is also updating the BlackBerry Bridge software that allows you to pair a PlayBook with a BlackBerry smartphone. Previously the Bridge software was necessary if you wanted to use your calendar, BlackBerry Messenger, or some other apps on the tablet. But BlackBerry Bridge 2.0 will let you use your phone as a remote control for the tablet.
In other words, you can type on your PlayBook using your smartphone’s hardware keyboard. Or you can show presentations on the PlayBook’s 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display while using your phone to flip pages or perform other actions.
Another new feature called “Open On” will let you take a picture on a BlackBerry smartphone and instantly open it on a PlayBook tablet.
Are these new features enough to interest you in a tablet that runs BlackBerry software instead of iOS or Android?
I wonder if software 5.0 on BB Bold will work with those features.
