Biostar is probably best known for making motherboards and graphics cards (among folks that know the name at all). But the company also offers computer accessories and some barebones PCs.
Now Biostar is introducing pint-sized PC called the Biostar Racing P1. It’s a full-fledged computer in a case the size of a (thick) smartphone.
According to Lowyat, the Racing P1 should to hit the market in the third quarter of 2016 for under $200.
The little computer features an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 Cherry Trail processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage plus a microSD card slot for removable storage.
It has one USB 3.0 port, six USB 2.0 ports, HDMI and Ethernet jacks, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a headset jack.
It’s hardly the first tiny, Intel Atom-powered mini PC we’ve seen. Kangaroo, Zotac, and other companies have similar products. But this one stands out for a few reasons: I believe it’s the first consumer-oriented mini PC from Biostar, and the Racing name is borrowed from a line of motherboards aimed at gamers.
The name seems like an odd fit for a low-power mini PC. But I suppose it provided an excuse to use the Racing design for the top of the computer.
thanks Olivier!
