Update: The contest has ended, but stay tuned for more giveaways from Liliputing!

The Augen GenTouch78 was one of the first Android tablets to break the $150 mark in the US when it went on sale at KMart last year. It’s now available for even less if you shop around. The tablet isn’t a very good Android device. But with a little work, you can enable Google Android Market access, install third party apps, and use the tablet to watch videos, surf the web, and perform other simple tasks.

I picked up a GenTouch78 last summer for testing purposes, but I’ve barely touched it in months, so my loss is your gain. I’m going to give away the tablet to one lucky reader (or an unlucky one, depending on how you look at it).

The GenTouch78 has a 600 MHz TCC8902 processor, a 2100mAh battery, 256MB of RAM and 2GB of storage. It has a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel resistive touchscreen display. There’s an unusual button layout, with menu, home, back, and search buttons placed on the back of the device instead of the bottom.

The model I’m giving away has been updated with PandoraDroid, a custom ROM which enabled Android Market access, adds the ability to manually rotate the display, and places a home, back, and menu buttons in the status bar.

Here’s how to win.

  1. You can leave a comment on this post.
  2. You can follow Liliputing on Twitter.
  3. You can “like” Liliputing on Facebook.

On Monday I’ll randomly select a winner from the comments, Facebook, or Twitter. If you want to triple your chances of winning, you can follow us, like us, and leave a comment — but you can only win once. Note that if you already follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you’re already entered, but feel free to leave comments on Facebook, retweet us, or do anything else you like to promote the site. I won’t complain.

Included in the contest is a lightly used Augen GenTouch78 tablet, a power adapter, and a USB cable for connecting the tablet to a computer.

The contest is open to US residents who haven’t won a Liliputing contest in the last 12 months and who aren’t close friends or family members of Liliputing writers.

  1. I managed to brick one of these from Kmart when they first were mentioned here. Apart from that, it didn’t seem bad for the price.

  2. Wow nice 😉

  3. Looks like something cool that I like to play with but would not buy after reading your comments.

  4. I’m not in the US so I’m out. You know, it would be a sign of goodwill if you just one single time made a competition open to non US people. I know there are shipping costs to consider but one time should be possible work? Smaller stuff like USB pen drives would go into a standard sized envelope.

  5. I’m addicted to new gadgets. I’d love to check this one out!

  6. Well if nobody else wants it, I will give it a go. 😉

    *crosses fingers*

  7. I would love to get the chance to mess around and experiment this little guy, please include me in the drawing.

  8. I think this would be perfect for ebook reading. Most womens purses are large enough so wouldn’t be a problem taking it with me.

  9. I had one a little after it first came out. It was okay. I tried upgrading the software but I think I killed mine when I pressed reset (per instructions) and got a sizzling sound (I might have damaged it to the point that when one recharges it and turns it on, it goes no further than the little creature thing in the upper left hand corner [stays that way till the batter goes dead]). It would be neat to try one again; especially if I can get it for free. I had lots of problems from day one with the one I had. I hope who ever gets this one (hopefully it would be me) fares better than I did. 🙂

  10. There’s crap and then there’s the Gentouch78. Eh. Free is free.

  11. This will be perfect for reading my vet books, watch some lectures, and have some pictures of my family, with me. Thanks for the hope of having my first android tablet!

  12. Long time reader, first time commenting. Never had a tablet, nor an Android device of any kind, nor won anything in an online contest. Hope this will be a first in all those areas!

  13. Would it be bad to give this to my 90 yr old mom so I can send her pictures? She won’t even hit the play button on the VCR (remember those?), but I could put it on the wall and tell her to not touch it…pictures will just magically appear….That’s what I’d do if I won.
    thanks,

  14. Brad, I know how much you hate the gentouch. Why don’t you just give it to me so it’ll never bother you again?

  15. ok, count me in for the tablet craze… probably useful for using on the pot, I guess.

  16. I had wanted one of these when they first hit the market, especially at the price point that they arrived. Hopefully this will become a reality if my name gets picked from the list. 😉

  17. Good deal! It would be fun to see if it would work as a general info display.

  18. When you announce the winner, can you count up how many entries you got vs. the numbers for those flash drive giveaways…?

  19. I love liliputing.com!! As my girlfriend reads Perezhilton.com every morning I feel so much better about myself whilst perusing your site beside her in bed. 😀
And you guys are so generous with such great giveaways.
    *fingers x’ed

  20. Hi Brad, I visit your excellent website for news on netbooks for the
most part but I would be grateful if I win the tablet, Thanks

  21. I would gladly get this to mess around and not break my current Andoid device. Could be nice for some video in the back seat of my car for passangers. I think it would fit well on the headrest.

  22. Wow, nice. I’m in fo shizzle. I would consider the winner to be a lucky reader, btw.
