The Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 is an ulta-thin laptop with a big, high-resolution display, a powerful processor, discrete graphics, and a kind of hefty price tag. But it’s a little cheaper today than it was a month ago.
Asus held an event in New York to announce the North American launch of the Zenfone 2 smartphone. Just before getting to the main even though, Asus CEO Jonney Shih talked about two of the company’s latest laptops, the $699 Asus ZenBook UX305 and the high-end ZenBook Pro UX501.
People applauded when he announced the price for the former (clearly the room was filled with people who didn’t know it was already available for that price). But I was a bit surprised to see the $1499 price tag for the latter: when the Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 launched in April, it sold for $1799.
Sure enough, the Asus Store is now selling the laptop for $300 off the original price.
The notebook features a 15.6 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel touchscreen display, an Intel Core i7 Haswell processor, NVIDIA GTX 960M graphics, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of solid state storage, and Bang & Olufsen audio.
Other features include 802.11ac WiFI, Bluetooth 4.0, Thunderbolt 2.0, HDMI, thre USB 3.0 ports, an SDXC card reader, and a 96Wh battery.
The Asus Zenbook UX501 measures 15.1″ x 10″ x 0.8″ and weighs about 5 pounds. That makes it pretty heavy for an ultrabook, but reasonably compact for a system with a 15.6 inch screen and NVIDIA graphics.
0″ deep? That is thin!
I wish this ZenBook Pro UX501 was sold at the same price ($=€) to Europe.
