Asus is updating its Transformer Book line of 2-in-1 Windows tablets with a new model sporting an Intel Atom Cherry Trail processor, a USB Type-C port, and a promise of up to 14 hours of battery life.

Asus says the Transformer Book T100HA will also be available with up to 4GB of RAM, when it launches in the third quarter of 2015.

The Transformer Book T100HA features a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, an Intel Atom x5 processor. and the tablet measures 0.33 inches thick and weighs about 1.3 pounds. It’ll be available in black, white, green, or red.

Asus plans to offer models with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.

The original Asus Transformer Book T100 first launched in 2013, offering a nice balance of a low price tag and decent performance in a compact package. This year’s model should offer faster performance, longer battery life, and options for up to twice as much memory and twice as much storage as the original.

Asus hasn’t announced the price for the new model yet, but the 2013 model had a list price of $349 when it was introduced. It’s likely that a new model with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage could sell for a similar price (or less), with higher prices for models with more memory and storage.

Update: Mobile Geeks reports the Transformer Book T100HA will sell for $279 and up.

  1. 97.47% of the T100’s screen resolution, in a format just slightly worse for watching movies & videos.

  2. I guess nobody follow microsoft with 2560×1440 screen, at least some chinese brand released 3:2 screen with 1920×1280

  3. Was really hoping to have a 4:3 display to give a lower priced alternative to the Surface 3. Can’t get away from 16:9 fast enough for me.

    1. I thought Surface was 3:2? This new T100 is 16:10, which is only about about 7% difference.

    2. The surface 3 and 3 pro have a 3:2 screen ratio.
I wish manufacturers would use that instead of copying Apple’s square 4:3 ratio or using 16:10 or 16:9

      1. Yeah, my bad. 16:10 is better than 16:9, but I would take 3:2 or 4:3 over them any day, especially on smaller devices.

  4. I usually don’t bother you with little details, but “Intel is updating its Transformer Book line…” should read “Asus is updating its Transformer Book line…”.
    Thanks for keeping us informed.

  5. A true successor to the (first) T100 at last. Cherry trail and type C represents a real upgrade (and +40% battery life), fantastic if the price is right. Also- @brad; the asus press report says ‘4GB RAM’ nothing about up to.. which is great, and I suspect means the same $349 price.

Would have been nice to see a high res option.. again asus doesn’t say 1200×800.. which would be a bit weird having a downgrade.

    1. Yeah, but Asus press releases are notoriously light on details, and folks who are in Taiwan this week are reporting “up to.” I’m about 99 percent certain there’ll be a 2GB model.

      1. Brad you are going to be due having a close look at all these new 2 in 1 devices that are being released from Acer, Asus and others like the new Nextbook flexx 11 that just recently became available from walmart. Looking foward to it as well as windows 10…
