Asus appears to be readying some sort of Android tablet with a removable smartphone component. It’s not yet clear whether the tablet and phone can function completely independently of one another or if the phone is the brains of the tablet, much like the Motorola Atrix 4G webtop laptop dock is useless when the phone component is unplugged.

The Computex trade show gets underway this week in Taiwan and Asus is scheduled to hold a pre-show press event tomorrow where the company will unveil a number of new products. Asus has been teasing us with images of those products for the past few days and today the company posted a few photos of a new smartphone at TechInStyle.tv. All Asus is saying about the phone at this point is that it’s got some buttons and metal bits.

But the folks at Notebook Italia found a larger image which shows the phone sitting on top of the tablet Asus teased earlier this week. The phone also appears to have a special connector on the right side which may be some sort of a docking station.
