There’s evidence that the next smartphone/tablet hybrid from Asus will be called the Padfone X. The company users the Padfone name to describe smartphones that are designed to work with optional tablet docks, giving you the chance to use the phone’s hardware with a larger display and battery.
This month Asus unveiled the Padfone mini, featuring a 4.3 inch phone and a 7 inch tablet dock. Earlier this year the company introduced the Padfone Infinity with a 5 inch phone and a 10 inch tablet.
Now it looks like a new model called the Padfone X is on the way… although its specs are virtually identical to those of the Infinity.
The folks behind benchmarking tool AnTuTu noticed a new device called the Asus Padfone X in their database recently. That suggests someone has been testing a pre-release version of the device.
We don’t know the actual screen size, or even if the hardware is final at this point, but here are the specs that AnTuTu uncovered:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor
- Adreno 300 series graphics
- 1920 x 1200 pixel display
- Android 4.4
- 5MP rear camera
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage
Not surprisingly, the device scores pretty well in benchmarks.
Asus plans to unveil a new line of products at an event in Las Vegas on January 6th, so we may learn more about the Padfone X during the week of the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show.
Well… nuts. Asus just completely disappointed me with their 4×7 PFmini, was all set to pick up a Padfone Infinity too…
but then they removed the Station combo offer (adding $200 to the cost), ‘leak’ a new Padfone version and suggest that the keyboard dock may return – perhaps even for this PFX.
Maybe I should just recontract, sell the phone, take the money and just purchase what I want when I find it…
(Minor rant: And why was the dock removed in the first place? Internal space? Why can’t it be compatible w Transformer KB docks & bring costs down?)
Nice! There are the better specs er were asking for!
