1101ha overclock

Asus has uploaded the user manual for the upcoming Eee PC 1101HA to its global support site. The only catch is that the manual is currently only available in Chinese. Fortunately there are plenty of pretty pictures that help tell the story of this laptop.

The Eee PC 1101HA is the first laptop with an 11.6 inch display in the Eee PC family. While purists will probably argue that it’s not really a netbook thanks to that large display, it’s not much larger than the Eee PC 1005HA which has a 10.1 inch screen. The Eee PC 1101HA also has room for a full sized keyboard, and unlike the Eee PC 1008HA it has a removable battery and a RAM access panel on the base of the unit. In fact, the pictures in the user manual make it looks almost exactly identical to the Eee PC 1005HA.

The Eee PC 1101HA also has a multitouch trackpad which supports two-finger gestures for zooming and rotating.

The computer includes the Asus Super Hybrid Engine application for adjusting the computer’s clock speed from within Windows. But it also appears that you can adjust the CPU speed in the system BIOS, which is a feature that’s absent from most Eee PC netbooks. This should make it much easier for Linux users to overclock or underclock the system, although if you use this method instead of using software, you’ll have to reboot the PC every time you want to adjust the speed.

Update: Netbook 3G points out that English language version of the user manual is available now, and it looks like this BIOS setting actually lets you adjust the overclock value for Super Hybrid Engine. In other words, if you want it to provide a 15% percent boost, you can do that in the BIOS. It’s not clear from the manual what other options you have. 10 percent? 50 percent? Probably not.

Update 2: There are 5 settings: 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 32%.
