We already know that Asus was working on two 12 inch models, the Asus Eee PC 1201N and 1201HA. Asus hasn’t officially announced either product yet. But the first showed up on a Chinese web site, while the second is described in a series of documents and downloads on the Asus support site.

Now Eee PC Italia has received what appear to be leaked documents from Asus with detailed specs on both models. Here’s the rundown:

Asus Eee PC 1201N

  • Display: 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels
  • CPU: 1.6GHz Intel Atom N330 dual core
  • Graphics & chipset: NVIDIA ION (GeForce 9400M)
  • OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Memory: 3GB DDR2
  • Storage: 320GB HDD + 500GB web-based storage
  • Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n WiFI, Bluetooth, Ethernet
  • I/O: HDMI, VGA, 3 USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot, mic, headphones
  • Webcam: 0.3MP
  • Touchpad: Supports multitouch gestures
  • Battery: 6 cells, 8 hours
  • Colors: Black, blue, or red
  • Dimensions: 11.7″ x 8.2″ x 1.3″
  • Weight: 3.1 pounds

Asus Eee PC 1201HA

  • Display: 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixels
  • CPU: 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520
  • Graphics & chipset: Intel US15W / GMA 500 graphics
  • OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Memory: 2GB DDR2
  • Storage: 250GB HDD + 500GB web-based storage
  • Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n WiFI, Bluetooth, Ethernet
  • I/O: VGA, 3 USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot, mic, headphones
  • Webcam: 0.3MP
  • Touchpad: Supports multitouch gestures
  • Battery: 6 cells, 8 hours
  • Colors: Black, blue, or red
  • Dimensions: 11.7″ x 8.2″ x 1.3″
  • Weight: 3.1 pounds

In other words, it looks like the Eee PC 1201HA will be the budget model with a low priced 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, less RAM and hard drive space, and no HDMI. I’d be surprised if the Eee PC 1201HA didn’t get better battery life than the Eee PC 1201N though.

Clearly neither of these computers will be available until after Windows 7 is launched on October 22nd.

  1. I wonder what this will cost when it gets released. The culv stuff is starting at the low 600, high 500 range. Think this will be any cheaper?

    1. The Aspire 1410 is now $399, and was released at $449, and it uses a CULV. I would expect these to come in under $500.

      1. I hightly doubt that. The Nvidia ION is already a new thing in netbooks. (HP Mini 311, Lenovo S12, Samsung N510)
And this Asus netbook will be the fourth to be released with an ION chip. However, it is also the first to have the 300 series dual-core.

The other three netbooks are all priced at $400 and up. $400 is the stock HP Mini311 with 1GB RAM and WinXP. Lenovo S12’s 3GB edition is a little under $600. Samsung N510 doesn’t even have a MSRP, according to Google.

So in other words, I’m guessing this baby will cost in the 600-800 range. Then again, it is overpowered for what 95% of consumers would use it for. Don’t believe the hype.

  2. Hmm dual core Atom + ION… i could like this!

While the N330 has a higher TDP of 8w it’s still less than the CULV’s 10w.

Add in ION and you have an interesting competitor to the not quite netbook CULV devices on the horizon.

You know, assuming this wasn’t just a typo. 😉

  3. What kind of processor is the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N330 dual core? Obviously better than the Atom N280 (I assume), but what about compared to the single core CULV in the Acer 1410? Or the dual core CULV to be found in the new Samsung? This is why I haven’t bought a netbook after 7 months of reaseacrhing, new things, different, things, come out every week

    1. Well Bconvis, you just have to find one that would fit your needs and stop trying to wait for the latest and greatest. Just make sure the one you pick up one that can be upgraded.

    2. The N330 is not new, it’s a desktop (or nettop) version of the Atom-Series and has been around for more than a year (just not in netbooks).

Basically, the N330 is two N230-cpus (1.6GHz, 4W TDP) glued together. So you get more power, but obviously also a lot more energy consumption -> N330 has 8W TDP, compared to 2.5W TDP of the N270.

So there’s a good reason why normally manufacturers don’t use the N330 in mobile devices.

  4. Eee PC 1201N sounds like the Macbook Air 11 (or perfect hackintish) I dreamed up. But I don’t believe a word these leaks say.
