Liliputing reader Scott Kuban wrote in to let us know that he ordered one of those massive 12000mAh batteries DealExtreme is selling for Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000 series netbooks. The verdict? It’s big, heavy, and full of juice.
The battery increases the weight of Scott’s Eee PC 1000H from 3.2 pounds to 3.75 pounds, which is pretty heavy for a netbook. But the battery should also be able to last from 8 to 10 hours.
The battery also sticks out from the bottom of the netbook quite a bit further than the standard 6 cell battery. Scott says that makes typing a little uncomfortable if you place the computer on a table. He says he hardly noticed the battery when typing with the notebook on his lap.
You can read more of Scott’s thoughts on the battery at his blog.
Update: Scott ran some tests on the extended battery, and found that he actually got about 33% more power from his standard 6 cell battery. It’s possible he got a defective unit, and he’s going to try exchanging the battery for a new one. But buyer beware.
You should try to drain the battery.
Remove warnings and shutdown, and just run the battery out.
When its shutting down, try to start it up again, untill it can´t do it no more. Doing that will calibrate the battery with the battery-measure.
I ordered one on a whim last night. At that price I can’t realy complain.
One thing is for sure, between the original battery and this new extended one, I will have “real” all day computing power.
I bought the 1000h just because this huge battery was available at such low cost, best decision ever. Portable power for all my usb powered devices!
Just a few hundred grams more. The size would be more of an issue.
Wonder how it looks on a 901.
