An Asus Eee PC 1101HA just showed up at Casa de Liliputing. I’ve only had a few moments with this 11.6 inch laptop, so I haven’t had a chance to put it through all the paces yet. But I am fairly impressed with the size and layout. It feels just a little bigger than the Asus Eee PC 1005HA, which has a 10.2 inch screen. But the Eee PC 1101HA packs a larger, higher resolution display.
The 1101HA also has a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, which is slower than the 1.66GHz Atom N280 CPU in the smaller netbooks from Asus. The Z520 processor does use less energy, and Asus claims that the Eee PC 1101HA can get up to 11 hours of battery life on a charge. That’s a claim I hope to put to the test over the next few days.
In the meantime, you can check out an unboxing video after the break. Sorry about the rather abrupt ending, but the camerawork was pretty shoddy at that point. I was trying to walk around the two netbooks but it turns out there are some maneuvers that shouldn’t be attempted with cheap digital cameras.
I’ve got the Acer 751, which has the same processor. It’s lags a little more than the other Atom processors, but I don’t find it bothersome. I really like the little machine.
HOWEVER, I think it depends on what you find acceptable. For instance, CNET reviewers of the Acer 751 (with Z520 CPU) said they occasionally felt like throwing it out a window due to the slowdown!
If you think you’d fall in that camp, maybe look at the Acer 1410 or the Dell 11z (though the Dell gets miserable battery life). Those guys come with Core 2 Solo processors. About twice the speed of the Atom. About 1/2 or 1/3 the speed of a Core 2 Duo.
Can you give some info about the difference in performance between the 1005 and 1101? Does the hibrid engine on it highest run similiar to the 1005? The the hybrid engine work with ubuntu? Thanks in advance
I bought one for my sister last Saturday !!
It really does go 11 hours
The design is unmatched (especially the built-in trackpad in the shell)
The keyboard is amazing, your hands just relax with all the room
It’s not that slow, maybe it’s the hyper-threading or the CPU is real-time overclocking but whatever it is it works just great with multiple tabs, MediaPlayer, Word, Powerpoint etc all going at the same time.
Easily the best Netbook I have ever seen.
It’s very cheap for the features it offers.
