The Asus Eee Keyboard is finally available for pre-order in the US from Amazon. But at $599, do you still want one?
It’s been almost a year and a half since Asus first demonstrated the Eee Keyboard at CES last year. The computer-in-a-keyboard has all the specs of a 2009 model netbook, including a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, and Windows XP Home Edition. But it’s not a netbook. Instead it’s a keyboard with a computer stuffed inside, plus a wireless HDMI transmitter that lets you use your HDTV as a monitor.
The Eee Keyboard also has a built in 5 inch, 800 x 480 pixel multitouch display for viewing widgets, launching apps, and performing other tasks. The computer has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetoth 2.1, and 10/100/1000 Ethernet connectivity, a 16GB solid state disk, VGA output, and 3 USB ports.
As far as I’m aware there’s no similar product for under $600. In fact, I’m not sure there’s a similar product at all. But it would probably be cheaper to just buy a PC, stick it next to your TV, and use a wireless keyboard.
No word on when the Eee Keyboard will start shipping, but if you’re still interested you can pre-order one from Amazon today.

If it was half as much, it would be more appealling. It is cool but with this economy, it might not do so well; specially a whole – with screen – would cost less (or even a netop computer).

Stick it next to your TV perhaps? 😉
Sure, if you think that would work better.
Fixed. 🙂
