The Asus C200 Chromebook is now available for pre-order from Amazon for $249
The notebook is one of the first Chrome OS devices to feature an Intel Bay Trail processor which is a low power chip that Intel says should help the laptop get nearly all-day battery life.
Other features include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display. The notebook has 802.11ac dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. It features an HDMI port and SDXC card slot, 1 USB 3.0 port and 1 USB 2.0 port, and the system measures 12″ x 7.9″ x 0.8″ and weighs 2.5 pounds.
Asus says the notebook should get up to 10 hours of battery life thanks to its 48 Whr battery and its low-power processor. The company is also proud of the touchpad beneath the keyboard, which it says is the same size as a touchpad normally found on a 14 inch laptop.
The Asus C200 has an Intel Celeron N2830 processor. That’s a dual-core, 64-bit chip with a TDP of 7.5W, a clock speed of 2.16 GHz and burst frequencies up to 2.41 GHz. The chip can support up to 8GB of RAM, but it’s not clear whether you’ll be able to upgrade this particular notebook with that much memory.
Asus is also launching a 13 inch model called the C300 Chromebook. That model has the same basic specs, but a bigger screen and a body that’s 0.9 inches thick and which weighs 3.1 pounds.
