Archos has been showing off its new Platinum line of Android tablets with quad-core chips since the Consumer Electronics Show. But now the company’s making those tablets official, and promising to ship the first models this month. As expected, Archos is also adding an 11.6 inch model to the lineup.

Archos Platinum tablets

The Archos Platinum tablets are each equipped with 1.2 GHz Allwinner A-31 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processors with 8-core graphics and support for 1080p HD video decoding.

They feature 2GB of RAM, mini HDMI and microSD card ports, front and back cameras, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software, and access to the Google Play Store. They also each have IPS displays with wide viewing angles.

Where they differ is size, screen resolution, and price:

  • The Archos 80 Platinum has an 8 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel display and will sell for $199 (or £179 in the UK). It should be available in February.
  • The Archos 97 Platinum has a 9.7 inch, 2048 x 1536 pixel display and will sell for $299 (£249) in February.
  • The Archos 116 Platinum has an 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel screen and will be available in April for $349 (£299).

It’s likely the prices will be lower if and when the tablets go on sale in the US.

Like many recent tablets from Archos, the 8 and 9.7 inch tablets are actually manufactured by Chinese companies and rebadged with the Archos name.

    1. According to the Archos press release all three models have HDMI. The J&R listing may have been wrong (or the press release could be), but since we haven’t seen the finished hardware yet it’s usually safest to go with the press release.

      1. Ahh… I see. The product page at is live — and doesn’t mention HDMI in the tech specs. But it’s in the description, and the image of the back of the tablet specifically says HDMI.
