The Archos ChildPad is an inexpensive Android tablet aimed at children. First unveiled in March, the ChildPad is now available for purchase for $129.99.
Archos apparently spent the last few months working out content partnerships, because the tablet now ships with exclusive Alvin & The Chipmunks 3 content including video clips, pictures, wallpapers, and an online game.
But even if you’re not a fan of animated rodents, the tablet doesn’t look all that bad for a $130 device.
The ChildPad features a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor and runs Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage, plus a microSDHC card slot for extra storage.
If there’s one reason to worry about this tablet, it’s the display. It has a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel resisitive touchscreen display. Android tends to work best on devices with capacitive touchscreens, and the display resolution is rather low.
The tablet features 80.211n WiFi, a front-facing camera, and support for 1080p HD video playback. It measures 8.8″ x 5.6″ x 0.5″ and weighs 0.8 pounds.
Since the tablet is aimed at children (and the parents that supervise them), Archos also offers parental control software. The ChildPad comes with a 6 month subscription to the Mobile Parental Filter app.

I love the number of PORTS available for this unit.
But, where is the GPS (AirPad)?
Add a Pixel Qi Screen (if you could modify this for 1024×600), and an easily replaceable battery and you would have the perfect 7 inch tablet.
Anyone know of a USB external GPS receiver that you could just plug into the AirPad’s NORMAL SIZE USB port?
