The Archos 28 isn’t the most impressive Android device you’re likely to find. It has a small 2.8 inch, 320 x 240 pixel resistive touchscreen display. It has just 4GB to 8GB of storage space. And it doesn’t have a video-out port like its bigger siblings. But here’s what the Archos 28 is: Cheap. You can pick one up today for just $99.99.

The little guy also packs a bit of punch under the hood. It has an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU with support for H.264, MPEG-4, WMV, and other audio and video formats. It also features 3D OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration and runs Google Android 2.2 Froyo.

The Archos 28 has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a built in mic (but not speaker) and a G-sensor for automatic screen rotation. Archos says it should run for up to 16 hours when you’re listening to music, 6 hours while surfing the web, or 4 hours while playing videos.

If you’re looking for an Android alternative to the iPod touch which runs less than half the price, the Archos 28 might be worth checking out.

There are a few caveats: Obviously it has a much lower resolution display, a cheaper plastic case, and a resistive toucshcreen. It also ships without access to the full Android Market, but hackers have figured out a way around that.

You can read more about the Archos 28 in my hands-on post.
