Apple has unveiled a new version of the Apple TV set-top-box. The key new feature is support for 1080p HD video, and Apple is announcing that 1080p TV shows and movies will now be available for purchase from the iTunes Store.
The new Apple TV will be available next week for $99.
Apple says TV shows will be available the day after they’re broadcast, and there’s a new Genius-type feature that will offer recommendations based on your viewing habits.
The Apple TV will also now support iTunes Match which means that if you pay $25 Apple will scan the music on your computer and make your songs available on your Apple TV just the way iTunes Match can already do with an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. It also supports iTunes Match for some movies not purchased from iTunes.
The Apple TV also now supports Apple’s Photo Stream service, meaning you can automatically upload photos from your iPhone and view them on your TV.
