The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE may be the first smartwatch to ship with ship with a version of Android Wear based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but Google says the new version of its smartwatch OS will begin rolling out to all Android Wear watches in the next few months.
So what’s new?
According to developer documentation, here are a few things that are different in Android Wear API 23:
- The Android 6.0 permission model is in effect, which means apps will ask users to enable permissions the first time they’re needed. Users will also be able to turn specific permissions on or off at any time.
- There’s support for watches with speakers, like the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE.
- Google is also adding support for watches with Intel x86 processors, like the upcoming TAG Heuer Connected).
Google is also making it easier for developers to create apps that can run on both watches with round and square watch faces.
