Amazon has added Prime Reading to the list of benefits available to Amazon Prime members. That means that a Prime subscription gets you access to a rotating library of about a thousand eBooks, digital magazines, and comic books.

You can read any of the included titles on a Kindle eReader, Fire tablet, or by using the Kindle app for Android or iOS.

There was a time when Amazon Prime was just a program that let you pay an annual fee to get free 2-day shipping on select items. Now Prime members still get that feature… but also access to thousands of streaming movies and TV shows, streaming music, cloud photo storage, exclusive podcasts from Audible Channels, and more.

Like Amazon Prime Music, the new Prime Reading perk doesn’t give you access to an unlimited selection of content. There are some best-selling titles available and odds are that any avid reader will be able to find a few things to read among them. It’s a nice added benefits, considering it’s included in the price of a $99 per year Amazon Prime membership for no extra fee.

But it also feels like an effort to get you to pay extra for one of Amazon’s other subscription services, like Kindle Unlimited (which has a much larger selection of eBooks to choose from) or ComiXology Unlimited (for digital comics).

For example, Prime Reading currently lets you read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone for free. Want to read the rest of the series? They’re available for $10 per month with a Kindle Unlimited subscription (or you can just buy them outright).
