The Kindle paperwhite isn’t the only new eReader from Amazon. The company is also upgrading its basic Kindle eReader and dropping the starting price to $69.

That’s the price for a model with “special offers,” or ads on the home screen. You can get an ad-free model for $89.

The new Kindle will start shipping on September 14th.

Amazon Kindle $69

Amazon says the new Kindle offers new fonts, sharper text, and 15 percent faster page turns.

This low-end model doesn’t have a touchscreen or a side-light for reading in the dark. Instead its key selling point is its low price tag.

Last year’s Kindle had a starting price of $79 if you bought a model with “special offers.”

  1. I wonder if we can upgrade our older $79 kindle to have the new fonts, etc.?
