Amazon introduced Cloud Drive way back when Google Drive was just a twinkle in Google’s eye. You know… last year.

But up until recently Amazon Cloud Drive as an online storage locker that you had to use a web browser or mobile app to access. Now you can use your PC thanks to new Amazon Cloud Drive clients for Mac and Windows. They’re each available for download from

Amazon Cloud Drive

Amazon Cloud Drive provides users with 5GB of storage space for free. You can upgrade to 20GB for $20 a year, 50GB for $50 per year and so on… all the way up to 1TB for $1000 per year.

Any music you purchase from Amazon MP3 is also added to your Cloud Drive — but Amazon offers unlimited space for music purchases.

The new desktop apps let you upload documents, media, or other files from your desktop. On a Windows PC, for instance, all you have to do is right-click a file, choose the “send to” option and then select Amazon Cloud Drive.

You still need to use Amazon’s website to browser files stored online and there’s no way to keep your Cloud Drive synchronized with a folder on your desktop — which means that even with a desktop app Amazon isn’t really ready to take on Google Drive, Dropbox, or other file synchronization and backup services… at least not yet.
