Dell’s smallest VR-ready gaming laptop launches today. The new Alienware 13 notebook measures about 13″ x 10.6″ x 0.9″ and features a 13.3 inch display. It’s powered by a quad-core Intel Skylake-H processor with NVIDIA Geforce GtX 1060 graphics. And the system has a high-capacity 76 Wh battery for extended gaming sessions.
List prices start at $1199 (although a slight discount brings things down to $1176), but if you’re looking for a good gaming PC, I can’t imagine why you’d opt for an entry-level model with a 1366 x 768 pixel TN display at that price point.
Higher-priced display options include a 1080p IPS display or a 1440p OLED screen.
Dell says the OLED display has a 1ms response time for low-latency gaming, but you’ll have to pay a lot more for that option. Prices for the OLED version of the laptop start at $$1799 (or $1764 during Dell’s launch sale).
The computer ships standard with an IR camera for Windows Hello facial recognition and secure login features, 7.1 channel audio, stereo speakers, a Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port, a USB 3.0 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI 2.0 and Mini DisplayPort 1.2, and two audio jacks.
The system is available with up to a Core i7-6700HQ processor, up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, and up to 2TB of solid state storage (on two drives).
Entry-level models have a Core i5-6300HQ CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 180GB of storage.
You can also use the laptop with the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, which is an external dock that lets you connect the desktop graphics card of your choice.
While the Alienware 13 is the most compact VR-ready laptop in Dell’s line of gaming PCs, it’s not exactly the most portable PC on the market. The weight will vary depending on the configuration you choose, but Dell says on average, the Alienware 13 weighs about 5. 8 pounds.
