Acer has revealed one of the first smartphones designed to shoot 4K, or Ultra HD video. The Acer Liquid S2 features a 6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

In other words, it’s more than just a pretty camera.

Other features include 2GB of RAM, a 3300mAh battery, 802.11ac WiFi, 4G LTE support, and 16GB of storage.

The phone has a 2MP front-facing camera, but it’s the 13MP rear camera with a 24mm lens, BSI sensors for better photos in low-light conditions, and the ability to shot 4K video as well as 1080p video at 60 frames per second or slow-motion videos that run at 1/4th real-time speed.

While it might take a while before you can actually watch ultra high-resolution content on your smartphone (or your TV, unless you have a lot of money to spare), high-resolution screens that make 1080p look old school are becoming increasingly common in tablet and notebook displays. So if you’re tired of looking for content to watch on your high-res display, soon you’ll be able to shoot your own videos using a (barely) pocket-sized phone.
