Acer has launched three new mini-laptops with AMD’s latest low power chips. The folks at Netbook News.de got a chance to check out a few models at an AMD event in Cannes, France.

Acer Aspire One 521

Here are some of the highlights:

Acer Aspire One 521

As expected, the Acer Aspire One 521 has a 1.2GHz AMD V105 single core processor. It sports ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics, and can handle HD video playback. It also has an HDMI output for pumping out video to an external display.

The notebook has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and supports DDR3 memory.

You can check out a hands-on video after the break.

Acer Aspire 721

Like the Aspire 521, this model has ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics and supports HDMI output. But it has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a dual core AMD Athlon Neo K325 processor.

The notebook has 3 USB ports, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and optional 3G. It comes with a 5600mAh battery.

Acer Aspire 721

Acer Aspire 1551

This is another 11.6 inch model. In fact, it looks an awful lot like the Aspire 721. But the difference is that this model has an AMD Turion II Neo dual core processor and ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics.

The display has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, and like the other models it should support 1080p HD video playback. The Aspire 1551 comes with an HDMI port and WiFi. Bluetooth and 3G options are available. The notebook runs Windows 7 Home Premium.

Packard Bell dot.a

Packard Bell is a subsidiary of Acer, and the laptops under this brand name tend to look a lot like Acer laptops… for good reason. This particular model has a 1.7GHz AMD Athlon II Neo K125 single core processor and ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics.

It has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display. Roland from Netbook News shot a brief video overview:

  1. Acer chopped $35 off the price of the Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ-4906 LX.PJ302.028
    – Intel Pentium SU4100 1.30GHz
    – 4GB DDR2
    – 320GB HDD
    – 6-Cell
    – 11.6″ Display
    – Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    – Blue

While $35 isn’t much and the computer is a bit long in thw tooth given the ones coming out in July it is still a nice ultra-thin note/netbook.

  2. I was hoping for an AMD powered netbook. I look forward to hearing about them.

With competition comes better products and lower prices. IMO; it will benefit customers.

  3. Awesome, can’t wait to see how they test out once you get some actual samples to play with 🙂

I’d love for the AMD competition in this space to be viable, which so far their inability to compete on performance/watt has prevented.

  4. Can’t wait to these get reviewed, hope they give Intel some competition.

Interesting that it comes with an HD4225, where as full powered Phenoms and Athlons are just now coming out with HD4200’s. They may pack a bit of power with their low voltage processors.
