The Acer Iconia Tab A500 10 inch Android tablet is already starting to make the rounds, but Forbes reports that Acer isn’t stopping there. The company is reportedly working on a 7 inch model which could launch as early as next month.

Update: I had a momentary lapse of memory when writing this article and I completely forgot that Acer has already pretty much unveiled the Iconia Tab A100 Android tablet. Fortunately the folks at CarryPad reminded me when they noted that it could start shipping in the UK on May 14th, even sooner than Forbes had suggested.

The 7 inch tablet will have a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and run Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb. There’s no word on the screen resolution. While it would be kind of remarkable if the little guy had the same 1280 x 800 pixel resolution as its big brother, I’m not going to hold my breath.

Forbes reports that the tablet will cost less than the 10 inch Iconia Tab A500. The larger model starts at $450 for a WiFi-only tablet.

Acer has shown off 7 inch tablet prototypes at several events over the past year or so, but this is the first time we’ve heard anything about a potential release date.

Acer also recently launched a 10 inch Windows tablet with a detachable keyboard called the Acer Iconia Tab W500. Forbes suggests Acer is also considering the possibility of launching future tablets with the MeeGo Linux operating system.
