New York-based retailer J&R has posted product pages for the soon-to-be-released 10.1 inch Acer Asprie One netbook. And despite initial reports that the computer could cost between $400 and $600 overseas, it looks like J&R expects to sell the netbook for just under $350, which makes me feel a lot better about the rumors that Acer could phase out its 8.9 inch netbook and replace it with the new model.

According to J&R, the Acer AOD150 laptops will come in red, white, blue, and black and feature a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g WiFi, a 6-cell battery, and Windows XP Home Edition. They’ll also have 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel displays and new and improved touchpads with the mouse buttons below the pad instead of on the left and right sides.

J&R is taking pre-orders now, and says the laptops are “coming soon.”

  1. The 1024 x 600 is the same resolution as on the old model, they just made the screen bigger without any resolution improvement. It’s a pity, 600 px vertically is just a pain, I was hoping for 768 or 800 px at least as an option.

    1. Clarification: I meant that 600 px is a pain with the current crop of typical PC applications (which are wasting far too much screen estate). Given apps with an adquate UI, 600 px could be just fine.

  4. wondering about the fit of 6 cell battery
    will it allow netbook to lie flat or raised up as I have seen in pix of other netbooks with the 6 cell in place?

  5. If this aggressive pricing is going to be the norm once its released then this is really awesome! Way to go Acer. No doubt they seriously intend to maintain their lead in the market. I like the new model but the internals are basically identical to the old one so I’m debating whether I’ll bother to upgrade or wait for newer/better processor and chipset (although $350, omg, never dreamed it would start that cheap).

  7. Is the keyboard any larger than the original One? from the pictures it looks like they may have just used the old keyboard in a slightly larger case. I have been using One with XP everyday since August with no problems. It worked right out of the box so I would expect the 10 incher to be just as good.

  9. I feel stupid asking this, but this isn’t a spec improvement… does the extra size benefit us?
