Earlier this year Acer introduced a cheap Android tablet called the Iconia A1-830 with a 7.9 inch screen, an Intel Atom Clover Trail+ dual-core processor, and a starting price of $149.

Now it looks like Acer is getting ready to turbocharge its Android tablet lineup with new models featuring faster Intel Atom Bay Trail quad-core chips. Specs for a budget model called the Acer A1-840 leaked recently. It looks like a higher-end model with a more memory and a higher-resolution display is also in the works.

Specs for the Acer A1-840 FHD showed up at the GFXBench website recently.

The tablet reportedly has a 7.9 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, an Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and about 16GB of storage (with 10GB available to users).

It runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat software, has a 5MP rear camera with flash and auto-focus, and a 2MP front-facing camera. Other features include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and an ambient light sensor.

The cheaper Acer A1-840 will have similar specs, but just 1GB of RAM and a 1280 x 800 pixel display.

Acer hasn’t officially announced either model yet, so we don’t know the price, launch date, or even what the tablets will look like.

  1. I have it. Got it at google io 2014 at an intel party. They handed out a limited number. I can say unequivocally this tablet rocks!

  2. Honestly, all I want is a 1920x screen, 16GB and a decently fast processor, in a 8-9″ size at $150. So tired of these cheap tablets with less screen res than my phone. You can leave off the crummy cameras and GPS and 4G and NFC etc. Fine screen res on a tablet is of first importance IMO and maybe they are finally waking up to this.

I had an Acer 10″ with a 1200×800 screen and it was like looking at sand grains all day.

    1. Well isn’t this it then? But I’m pretty sure $150 for these specifications is wishful thinking. Maybe wait a year.

    2. $150? You are going to be waiting a while.
Alternatively you could stop being so cheap and get it now.

  3. Is there a detailed sheet someplace?
Like what kind of WiFi ? Does it support Dual band AC?
What size is the battery does it have a slot for more storage?
Too bad about the camera being kind of week.
