I’ve seen plenty of toddlers that are more than happy to play with mom or dad’s iPhone. But if you don’t feel like handing a $600 piece of hardware to a kid that’s still figuring out when it’s appropriate to poop, there’s a range of inexpensive kid-friendly tablets on the market.

Fuhu’s $200 Nabi 2 Tablet is one of the most visible, thanks to partnerships with some big name stores. Now the company has introduced an even cheaper model: The Nabi Jr has a starting price of $99.

Nabi Jr.

The Nabi Jr features a 5 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, and Android 4.0 software with a custom kid-friendly user interface. It also comes preloaded with educational software for kids as old as 12.

Fuhu has is own app store for kid-friendly software, but user can also side-load the Amazon Appstore. In other words, it sounds like the Nabi Jr does not come with full access to the 700,000 apps in the Google Play Store.

Another thing that sets the Nabi Jr apart from most cheap Android tablets or portable media players is that Fuhu isn’t trying to make the thinnest or lightest device. Instead it has a sturdy bumper around the screen designed to help protect the device from drops, bumps, and spills.

A 4GB Nabi Jr will run $99, while a model with 16GB costs $129.
