Apple is now shipping the 5th generation iPod touch to customers that pre-ordered the latest portable media device. GigaOm and 9to5Mac have both confirmed that the iPod touch started shipping this week and should arrive starting October 15th.

The Apple Store also says you can order an iPod touch now and expect it to ship in “October.”

Apple iPod touch 5th generation

Apple’s latest iPod touch features a 4 inch, 1136 x 640 pixel display, an Apple A5 processor, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a 5MP rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash, and a front-facing 1.2MP camera.

Basically the 5th generation iPod touch is an iPhone 5 with a thinner, lighter case, an iPhone 4S-like processor, and no cellular capabilities.

Apple charges $299 for a model with 32GB of storage and 64GB for a 64GB version. If those prices seem steep, you can also pick up last year’s iPod touch 4th generation for $199 and up.

One reply on “5th gen iPod touch now shipping”

  1. $299 for the iPod means at least 350 (more likely 400) for the iPad mini.
If the iPad Mini is speced as it’s been rumoured (Apple A5 cpu, no retina/full HD display and still no SD card, hdmi or gps), onlycompletely clueless consumer would buy it.
And yet, it will sell… Apple’s really confident since they ordered 10 millions of these things.
Something else Apple should watch out for (beside overpricing their iPad mini) are the new Surface and RT tablets coming in 2 weeks now and shipping for about the same price.
