The Asus ROG Flow line of laptops and tablets are mobile PCs that are designed to offer desktop-class gaming performance when connected to an optional ROG XG Mobile graphics dock.

But the new Asus ROG Flow X16 is a model that you could reasonably use for serious gaming even without the graphics dock. That’s because this 16 inch notebook comes with up to an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics built in.

That should be good enough for handling most modern gaming, especially since the laptop also supports up to 64GB of DDR5-4800 memory and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage.

The Asus ROG Flow also has a 2560 x 1600 pixel mini-LED backlit display with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, 3ms response time, and a 165 Hz refresh rate. Thanks to a 360 degree hinge, you can also use the computer in laptop, tablet, tent, or stand modes.

Ports include:

  • 1 x HDMI 2.0b
  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x microSD card reader
  • 1 x XG Mobile interface

The notebook measures 355 x 243 x 19.4mm (14″ x 9.6″ x 0.76″) and weighs 2.1 kg (4.6 pounds) with a 90 Wh battery.

But the laptop doesn’t come cheap. Prices are expected to start at around $1950, and for that price you won’t get the top-tier specs. Instead you’ll get a notebook with a Ryzen 7 6800HS processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage.

Of course, if you primarily plan to use the ROG Flow X16 for gaming at home, you could opt for an entry-level configuration and splurge on the XG Mobile dock with support for up to an AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT discrete GPU and additional ports including HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, Gigabit Ethernet, and four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports.
