The Microsoft Surface Duo is a dual-screen Android-powered smartphone/mobile device that sold for $1400 when it launched last fall, despite having somewhat dated specs including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. But now Microsoft is selling the Surface Duo with 128GB of storage for $650 (or you can pay an extra $50 for a 256GB model).

Meanwhile, if you missed out on picking up a tablet during Prime Day, there are still some almost-as-good deals to be found. Among other deals, you can snag a refurbished Amazon Fire HD 8 for $50 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 10.4″ for $180.

  1. Interesting how the Surface phone runs Android instead of a Microsoft OS like Windows Phone. I guess this means Metro Tiles are finally dead.

    1. It’s because Microsoft doesn’t have a viable smartphone operating system, and they’ve given up wasting money trying to make it happen.

      1. What I do not get is that Microsoft is the biggest software company in the world but they did not write apps for their own phone OS to make it viable.

  2. Thats a good price for the Surface Duo. That’s certainly in line with the value that I would put on that phone.

It’s a Shame that Microsoft isn’t offering the same value on their Canadian store. It’s only on sale for $940 CAD, which is around $770 USD. Still a good sale, but not cheap enough for me to commit to not having access to 5G for the next 2 years.

Hopefully this pricing is a sign of better value to come in future versions?

    1. Likewise on the UK store. Currently £250 off for a final price of £1150. That’s 1600 USD. That’s way too much but if it were as discounted as it is on the US store I’d consider it.

      1. I want to avoid saying “it should have Windows, not Android”, because Android really was the right operating system for it as a smartphone.

However, if it did have Windows, I would definitely fork over $650 USD for it to use as an offline/wifi device.
