Chinese electronics company Hisense is one of the only companies in recent years to sell smartphones with E Ink displays. Until recently, that meant phones with black and white screens, but now that color E Ink is a thing, Hisense unveiled a color model last year, and a YouTuber has posted a new unboxing and first look video that gives an idea of what to expect (and what to expect are dull-looking colors, but at least they’re colors.

Meanwhile, Intel will have a new CEO soon, Asus and Dynabook have some new laptops on the way, and Asus introduced a new portable display that’s got a few more features than most.

One reply on “Lilbits: A color E Ink phone, Intel’s new CEO, and more CES product launches”

  1. Their probably not to everyone’s taste, but for some of us, a coloured e-display is perfect, I don’t “do” visual media, have no interest in watching rubbish TV progs, dull films or watching posuers on you-tit, and if by some miracle somebody generates something I want to watch, I’m not going to be watching it on a tiny phone screen, no matter how good its display supposedly is, BUT, I do read an awful lot of e-books and have various types of audio playing 24/7/365,i don’t own a pc or laptop, everything is done through my phone, ever since my first HTC HD2, I’ve used phones as palm pc’s, preferably capable of running almost anything at usable speeds, the HD2 could run x86 os’s up to xp and programs, just very slowly, but these days, any mid spec device has far more cpu/gpu clout, more ram etc etc than the HD2, so should be more than capable of doing the same, but much more usable, multi os capability is a must, as is use as a desktop/lappy with just the addition of a powered USB hub for running into a dumb, simple monitor and keyboard etc etc.
I still love the notion of a Motorola ATRIX type set up, but I’ve never seen one yet without terrible compromises, Sammy puskrd their DEX, but haven’t done a decent job of it yet.
So, I want a nexus 7 sized device, “phablets” as I call them, tablet sized display but with top spec phone guts, unlike “normal” tablets, coloured E-display, totaly unlocked and capable of multi booting and running any OS and programs/apps at a decent pace, swappable battery capable, good front facing speakers, and in a perfect world usable as the track pad for a “dumb” body with 12-13 inch touch sensitive E-display,plug in power bank, and decent connector selection, etc etc.
I can dream, but you never know, somebody may build one one-day,and not want realy silly money for it,but I’m not holding my breathe waiting.
Currently using an old Sammy note 4,which in theory should be able to do anything that the old HTC HD2 could do, just better/quicker, but of course it can’t even come close to HD2,cis it’s a Sammy, just as a plain android phone it’s pretty rubbish, let alone anything else.
