One Netbook has been producing tiny laptops with screen sizes ranging from 7 to 8.4 inches for the past few years. Now the company is getting ready to launch its first mini-laptop designed for gaming.

It’s called the One GX, and the company has been slowly releasing details about the upcoming devices since November.

We still don’t know very much about the One GX gaming handheld, but I’ve compiled everything I do know below.

5/20/2020 update: There will be at least two version of the One GX. One Netbook will begin taking pre-orders in China on May 30 for a One GX with a 10th-gen Intel Amber Lake-Y processor and Intel UHD graphics. You’ll have to wait until later this year/early next year for a version with an Intel Tiger Lake processor and Iris Plus graphics.

7/2/2020 Update: The OneGX1 mini laptop is now available for pre-order from GeekBuying and Bangood, and we’ve published an in-depth OneGx1 review after testing a version with an Intel Core i5-10210Y processor and 4G LTE modem.

The game controllers, by the way, will not be Bluetooth. Instead they’ll connect to the One GX via a 2.4 GHz band connection for better reliability. They’ll also have vibration motors for tactile feedback and built-in rechargeable batteries.

According to a spec sheet posted to Baidu, the little gaming laptop will have a metal lid, dual fans and dual heat pipes for cooling, and RGB lighting on the back. It’s said to support WiFi 6 and One Netbook will offer WiFi-only, 4G, and 5G versions of the system.

Update 4/27/2020: One Netbook has shared a few pictures (shown above and below this paragraph) that give us the best look at the system to date. While the detachable controllers aren’t depicted, what we can see is a little laptop with a backlit keyboard, an optical touch sensor (rather than a touchpad), and an exhaust system on the back of the laptop that looks heavily inspired by Dell’s Alienware laptops.

Update 4/20/2020: A few (blurry) new images have emerged, giving us a look at the back and sides of the One GX. It looks like we can expect at least two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, and what looks like it may be an HDMI port.

Update 4/30/20: A short video posted to a Baidu group shows the One GX running WatchDogs 2 (using keyboard and mouse input rather than controllers).

Update 5/11/2020: One Netbook has released a short video showing the One GX backlit keyboard — showing that it supports RGB lighting effects.

Update 5/12/2020: And more details about the backlit keyboard and detachable game controllers:

Update 5/20/2020: At least one version of the One GX is expected to go up for pre-order in China on May 20, 2020 and a “Pro” edition may be coming later this year.

Update 5/25/2020: One Netbook has posted what appears to be a real-world picture of the One GX:

Update 5/28/2020: And a new video showing some non-gaming activities in action:

It’s also interesting to note that One Netbook seems to be doing things in the opposite order of rival mini PC maker GPD.

GPD’s first Windows-powered device was a handheld gaming PC, and only later did the company move to clamshell-style laptop designs for non-gamers. One Netbook, meanwhile, started with a convertible laptop-style design and is only now getting ready to launch a mini PC designed for gaming.

The next GPD gaming device will be the upcoming GPD Win Max, which is expected to go up for pre-order through a crowdfunding campaign later this year.

  1. Looks like a mini Alienware m15 with detachable controllers? thats an interesting concept and it would be even more interesting if Alienware themselves come out with the UFO concept to compete

  2. Are you getting a review unit of this? If so, I hope they send you one with LTE so you could test that out.

    1. If this really ends up coming with built-in 4G, then I hope Brad or someone can at least verify the supported frequency bands supported by the modem and antennas. Specifically, I’m interested in Verizon support.

      1. Yes, if you have contacts at One Netbook, then please confirm what LTE bands the One GX supports. For me, built-in LTE support is the primary thing missing from these new UMPCs so far.

  3. It seems One Netbook keeps changing the design of this. It must be pretty far away from actual mass production/release. Too bad they got rid of the display flipping feature to convert the device into a handheld console/tablet.

I, at least, hope they keep the LTE option. Glad to see there could be other color options besides the super ugly red one.

    1. About the same, but GPD parts are easier to get.
For both I have to replace parts myself

  4. Any news of the One GX coming in more neutral colors? Not liking that red.

  5. 5G (confirmed)

I hope that means LTE as well. I don’t care about the gaming part of this. If a UMPC has built-in mobile broadband, then I’m in. Hoping they have a non-red color option like black or dark gray.

    1. This got me interested as well. It’s nice this is using a 7″ screen to keep it small. That large back seems to add quite some bulk though. I guess we’ll have to see how large this is.

      1. I’m also a bit concerned about the overall physical size of this. Since I’m not planning on gaming, it’d be nice of One Netbook added LTE to one of their existing 7″ UMPCs. I can make due with less performance, I guess.

        1. Oh, I just saw the photo next to the Nintendo Switch. Hmm. It looks a bit too big for me.

Really hoping they add LTE to their existing 7″ devices now. Those seem to be noticeably smaller.

          1. Yeah, seems rather large for a 7 inch screen. I guess it’s still smaller (I assume thicker though) than my Surface Go LTE. I want built-in mobile broadband and a smaller device so I’ll keep watch for more details on this in addition to the Surface Go 2 LTE.

I wonder how loud the fan will be. It’d be difficult to transition away from a fanless device.

    2. Hmm. With the built-in mobile broadband, I’d get this if it doesn’t have the typical gaming aesthetic (it already has the ugly red color though). I hope I can buy this without the controllers for a cheaper price.

  6. Even with no real pictures of the device, I can see what they are going for here, and this looks absolutely terrible.

My guess is that this will be some kind of mini-laptop with Switch-style joycons that connect to the sides, but it will be a laptop?

I really hope I’m wrong, because that sounds absolutely terrible.

    1. Looks like it. The laptop part will probably be a great mini laptop though. Hope they will sell it without the controllers too. (Although I already have One Mix 3 which is more than enough for me.)

      1. Yeah, I also hope they have a cheaper option of not including the controllers. I don’t plan on using these UMPCs with 4G/5G for gaming anyway but the extra CPU power is welcome.

        1. Just get one of the current OneMix offerings then. Some of the more expensive models come with pretty decent CPUs as is, and it’s not like this is going to be significantly cheaper than any of those models.

          1. The One Mix doesn’t have 4G though which seems to be his main reason to look at the One GX.

    1. It’s shaped to be prepared for molting, obviously. How else are you to trek through the stars?
