The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is the first Chrome OS laptop to an AMOLED display. It’s also Samsung’s first to feature a 10th-gen Intel Core processor. And it’s the company’s most expensive Chromebook to date — it’s expected to sell for $999 when it hits the streets later in the first quarter of 2020.

To be fair, that actually makes this one of the most affordable laptops with an OLED display. But it’s still a lot of money by Chromebook standards, at a time when many other laptops running Google’s operating system sell for under $300.

Still, if you’re sold on the idea of Chrome OS as a viable operating system (especially now that it supports both Android and desktop Linux applications as well as Chrome web apps), the Galaxy Chromebook seems like a nice step up from Google’s $650 Pixelbook Go.

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook has a sleeker design, a higher quality display, a newer processor, and the starting price includes:

  • 13.3 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel AMOLED touchscreen display (HDR400)
  • 10th-gen Intel Core i5-10210U Comet Lake processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • Samsung S-Pen (dockable)
  • 49 Wh battery
  • Fingerprint sensor

Samsung will also offer higher-priced configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Other features a 360-degree hinge that lets you flip the screen around for use in tablet mode, a 1MP webcam and an 8MP camera (for use in tablet mode), plus two USB-C ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card reader.

The laptop measures less than 0.4 inches thick and weighs about 2.3 pounds. It has a fanless design, an aluminum chassis, and Samsung will offer the laptop in red and grey color options.

  2. Hopefully the bios will allow the installation of a new OS… for the case software support has stopped (or they want a real OS like Linux).

    1. I agree. But the thing is on chromebooks you have to remove the “debug screw” to even try to do that and I’m not even sure it’s physically possible to open this one’s shell. The camera on the keyboard is a bit silly too. At least the body and screen look nice.

      But why is it Weird Fleshy Pink? Weird Fleshy Pink was last year’s color. Now it’s 2020 so the color option must be Social Media Blue. Submit to the will of Pantone!

      1. The physical screw thing was only a thing in old chromebooks.

        The actual problem now is firmware support under linux. And the lack of buttons (I need my Super and Menu keys!).
