Dual-screen laptops are starting to become a thing… but UK-based Expanscape wants to go further than that. Much further.

The company is revealing prototypes of two multi-screen devices:

  • Aurora 7 is a laptop with 7 screens that lets you carry a monster workstation PC with you on the go.
  • TeenySERV Duo is a handheld computer with a QWERTY keyboard and dual 7 inch displays.

Both systems are just engineering prototypes at the moment, and Expanscape hasn’t shared any details about things like pricing, performance, physical dimensions, or battery life. But the company says it hopes to begin manufacturing and selling systems soon… possibly even before the designs are finalized.

Aurora 7

This prototype is based on a heavily modified ODM laptop sporting an Intel Core i9-9900K processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics.

But while the ODM laptop had just a single screen, the Aurora 7 has… a whole lot more:

  • 4 x 17.3 inch 4K display panels
  • 3 x 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display panels

One of the large displays is pretty much where you’d expect it to be. The other three are spread out above it and to the sides, and two of the small screens are placed atop the side displays. Honestly I’m not sure why you’d really want/need those displays, but I guess it gives the laptop a slightly more uniform height when fully opened.

The final 7 inch display is embedded in the palm rest and it supports multi-touch input, giving you an interactive display panel beneath the laptop’s motherboard.

I suspect this is a laptop with battery life that’s best measured in minutes, not hours. But it’s certainly more portable than most computers with this many screens.

Or at least it should be… it’s telling that Expanscape hasn’t shared any images of the laptop when it’s folded up. I have no idea if it’s even possible to collapse these screens gracefully.

TeenySERV Duo

This protoype looks… slightly less crazy? Maybe that’s only because I’ve spent a lot of time with handheld computers, but for the right price, I could actually see some folks buying a dual-screen handheld.

Anyway, the TeenySERV Duo is basically a chunky Windows table with a 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a backlit thumb keyboard, and way more horsepower than you’d expect from a handheld, thanks to an unspecified Intel Core i7 quad-core processor, 64GB of RAM, and NVMe solid state storage.

But then there’s that second 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display with you can flip open to get more screen space on the go.

Originally designed for networking and security work, the TeenySERV also features an integrated Arduino-compatible microcontroller.

Theoretically, the TeenySERV Duo is a pocket-sized device… if you have really, really large pockets. Realistically, it’s more of a compact computer you can stuff in a small bag.

Again, there’s no information about the pricing for either device — and I’m not really going to hold my breath waiting for either to come to market. But they are certainly some of the more unusual gadgets unveiled this week at CES.

Update: It turns out the prototypes are not at CES, but they were revealed to week, with more details said to be coming soon.

You can also keep up on the latest developments (if there are any), by following what appears to be the brand new @ExpanscapeUK account on Twitter.

  1. Brad – it’s your ferriting out and writing up off beat stuff like this that makes Lilliputing so worthwhile. I doubt that I’ll ever buy any of these things but please keep up your good work

  2. Hi Brad, Llo,dy

#ExpanscapeUK founder here – Thanks for the shoutout!

Wanted to clarify a few things!

This was not released at CES we just wanted to shoutout #CES!

The system does fully fold down. We will detail everything on our website soon!

The A7 integrates 2 rechargeable battery systems , 1 for the screens and one for the system. And it does last more than 10mins 🙂 – promise! 🙂 More info to be released soon!

The idea behind the Aurora7 screen layout was that you’d have 2 landscape and 2 portrait 4K displays which is perfect for my DevOps/SecOps/Automation stuff. However I also use it for content creation and it’s brilliant at this too.

The additional 7inch displays can be used for various network monitoring tools which is how I use them. There is also a little Embedded Micro-controller in the Aurora7 too as I have a few more ideas related to that to bring to fruition 🙂

The Aurora7 and TeenySERV have been in active use for several months to ensure durability and utility.

These prototypes were fully funded, designed and implemented by me – I have received no investor money. I identified impracticalities with my workloads using conventional devices and set about fixing this. It’s as simple as that.

As others in my industry have expressed interest – here we are.

The TeenySERV was literally built to allow me to use the GNS3 Network Simulator while standing up squashed on the train in the morning/evening and let me tell you it is fantastic for this 🙂

However the TeenySERV has many other uses in the CyberSecurity and Network Maintenance fields amongst others!

The TeenySERV also has several additional variants now. More info coming soon.

More info will be posted to our twitter and website soon!
    Thanks again

    1. Hi Lloyd, first of all I wanted to give you my support and recognition for taking the risk of designing and implementing what many professionals in the different fields you are targeting we were looking for without luck. I hope you had the public response that you expected from your well-intentioned and even brave Guerrilla Marketing show, even to be replicated in the few digital media that were covering CES this year and had a chance to see your products. I will send you an enquiry soon.

  3. The first thing that came to mind after seeing this was the Handy Boy accessory for the original Game Boy. It had controls that went over the existing controls, a magnifying unit that folded over from the top, and two speakers that folded out to the sides.

    1. Laughs aside, more and more film editors are working on set nowadays and they could easily use all these displays in their workflow.

  4. Oh wow, I LOVE the aesthetic on these. That Aurora 7 is a REAL mobile workstation, all in one unit. Yeah, it’s thick, but do you want thin and light, or do you want to write an entire website and database from scratch inside a tent one day (including drawing the graphics), and on a mountaintop the next?
That TeenySERV looks like something I’d plug into an ATM to brute force it into spitting out cash, or write and compile code while climbing a radio tower or trudging through a sewer.
I’d love to have these on principle, except for one problem. I’m not actually a programmer so I don’t actually need them. But if you want to be a true cyber punk/hackerman/brogrammer, you’re not going to get much closer than this.
