Dell’s Alienware laptops pack a lot of horsepower into portable gaming PCs, but they’re not exactly known for thin and light designs.

With a starting weight under 4.8 pounds and a body that measures about 0.8 inches thick, the Alienware m15 is the smallest current-gen model in Dell’s Alienware line of gaming PCs. The company first launched the Alienware m15 last year, and now the company is giving it a 2019 refresh.

That means it’s now available with up to an Intel Core i9-9980HK octa-core processor and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics. But it also means the new model features the updated “Legend” design language the company introduced earlier this year.

The new Alienware m15 is coming June 11th for $1500 and up.

Among other things, that means the laptop will come in light and dark color options and a generally cleaner look that still represents a futuristic aesthetic… but a future where sharp angles aren’t as important to design aesthetics.

In terms of practical changes, the new laptop features a new “Cryo-Tech Cooling 3.0” system that Dell says offers a 10 percent increase in airflow and 20 percent less airflow impedance.

Dell has updated its keyboard design as well. While the new laptop still supports RGB LED per-key lighting, it now offers 1.7mm of key travel and features new key caps with a 0.2mm concave surface.

CPU options range from an Intel Core i5-9300H quad-core chip to Core i9-9980H or i9-9980HK octa-core processors, and Dell offers NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 to Geforce RTX 2080 Max-Q processor options.

The Alienware m15 is also compatible with Dell’s Alienware Graphics Amplifier if you want to plug in an external, desktop-class GPU.

The laptop has dual SODIMM slots for memory and dual M.2 slots for solid state storage — Dell will sell models with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 4TB of storage. There’s no 2.5 inch drive bay though, so you won’t be able to add a hard drive.

Display options include:

  • 15.6″ FHD (1920 x 1080) 60Hz 25ms 300-nits 72% color gamut
  • 15.6″ FHD (1920 x 1080) 240Hz 7ms 300-nits sRGB 100% color
    gamut + Tobii Eyetracking technology
  • 15.6″ OLED UHD (3840 x 2160) 60Hz 1ms HDR-400 DCI-P3 color
    gamut + Tobii Eyetracking technology

Other features include a Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI 2.0b port, mini DisplayPort 1.4, Ethernet, three USB 3.1 ports, and an audio out jack. The laptop has a 76 Wh battery, a magnesium alloy body, and it measures 14.2″ x 10.9″ x 0.8″.
