Amazon’s Fire HD 8 continues to be one of the best tablets you can buy for under $100 thanks to a combination of decent specs and… well, a pretty low price tag.

Sure, it doesn’t ship with full access to the Google Play Store, but it’s not hard to add it on your own if you’re unhappy with the selection of apps and digital media in the Amazon Appstore. And the $80 starting price almost puts these tablets in impulse purchase territory.

Every now and again you can score an even better deal though… and today is one of those days. Amazon is currently selling the Fire HD 8 for $50 and up — the same price Amazon usually charges for the less impressive entry-level Fire 7 tablet.

Here are some of the day’s best deals.

  1. Wow, that was the most difficult install of Play Store on a Fire tablet yet–actually the only difficult one out of at least four installs

Using the link in the article I had “Parse error” messages with the first two apps to install, and none of the workarounds I found on the web did anything (moving to another directory, turning on developer mode, installing from USB). But I found this site with similar instructions: https://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-your-amazon-fire-tablet/

The first two apps installed fine from there, but the second two got the parse error again, so back to the site linked above to download those from there.

All works, but a PITA compared to before, even with an identical Fire Tablet.

    1. Good to know, thanks! I’m still using a 2017 model which is nearly, but not entirely identical so I haven’t tried the latest steps.

      1. Mine is probably that same–bought mid-2017 and is 7th generation. I just had not had the need to install the Play Store on it until recently, and this article prompted me to do so.

    2. I had the same Parse Error on an older Fire HD 6 from 2014. It was really strange because, like you, I’ve had no problem installing Google on 2016 and 2017 models, and also had no problems installing them onto a Fire HDX from 2013. All using the instructions here on Liliputing.

But it’s not a huge deal. The only thing I use Google Services for on Fire tablets is getting access to my Google Docs.
